-In 1948, Art Bender sold the first hamburger for the McDonald brothers at their first fast food restaurant in San Bernardino California. No one at the time had any idea that McDonald’s would become a restaurant chain loved by people around the world. Art then opened up franchises for the McDonald brothers in the Los Angeles area, and also in Phoenix, Arizona. After Ray Kroc purchased the rights to McDonald's system, Art then traveled to Des Plaines, Illinois to open Ray Kroc’s first store in April of 1955, and then became Ray’s first franchisee when the store in Fresno, California opened in July of 1955 at Blackstone & Shields.
